A former international educator, John Alan Urquhart writes about music, education, and culture from Hong Kong.

Born in France, I grew up in Canada, where I earned a B.A. (Hons) in history and a B. Ed. from the University of Winnipeg. I have taught in both northern and southern Canada, Switzerland, China, and Hong Kong. I have published fiction and criticism in Canadian literary magazines like Canadian Literature, Quarry, and Prairie Fire. My most recent writing appears in RootsWorld, World Music Central, PopMatters, and Modern Classical Music. I have just finished a memoir about my experiences in international education. Some excerpts from that are available here.
